August 30, 2011 at The Chanler Mansion (Spiced Pear Restaurant) in Newport, RI.
So, Ryan and I have date night every Tuesday night. We usually go to a different spot every week, but stay local. We have been wanting to cross Newport off our summer bucket-list, so when Ryan casually talked about going theret for date night, I thought nothing of it. He told me his Mom had won a gift certificate in a golf tournament at the Newport Country Club the summer before to this "ridiculous restaurant" and that It expired the end of August and needed to be used. I obviously agreed, and thought nothing of it.
***A quick look back...we had tried on rings about a month ago at Long's Jewelers at the South Shore Plaza, so I knew that a wedding was in our future in some way, shape, or form. I never thought it would be so soon! We have talked about getting married since, basically, day one, and we always knew we would end up down that path. Daily texts of "Can't wait to marry you!" weren't uncommon. When you know, you know, people.
So on Tuesday, Brady had a dr's appt and I knew I wouldn't be home in time to shower and get ready for our 6:30 reservation in Newport. I made him CHANGE the reservation until 7:00...such a princess. Seriously, can you say high maintenance? Earlier that day I also joked around saying, "you're not going to propose today are you?? HA HA HA AHA." CLUELESS. I even told my friend Corrie that we could meet up for Teen Mom that night when we got home. That afternoon I had asked Ryan what I needed to wear, and he told me "business casual," so I of course questioned his knowledge of business casual when he came down in slacks in a button down. "Can't you wear jeans?!!?!" I really gave him a run for his money that day...
We were off to Newport (12 minutes late) and arrived there with no issues. We pulled up to this GORGEOUS mansion on a cliff overlooking the water, and I mentioned about how funny we looked pulling up in his F150 in a sea of Jags, Bentleys, and Benz's. Everything was totally, completely, normal. So, we walked into the restaurant where the hostess greeted us, and brought us to our table. It was in a room full of glass windows, overlooking the gorgeous ocean at sunset. I said "Sheesh, what'd you do to get us this table???" and sat down. Well, Ryan didn't. He walked around the front of the table, and BAM got down on one knee.
THE PROPOSAL! He told me how much he loved me, and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me...popped open the little black box to reveal the ring I had always dreamed to have, and asked me to marry him. I of course said yes, and was BALLING my eyes out. I had my hand over my mouth the entire time, and kept asking him, "are you serious right now?? oh my gosh, is this for real???" I was in such a state of shock. My big, strong boy looked looked pretty watery-eyed as well. On goes the ring, and the waiter brought us over champagne. I didn't even notice the gorgeous arrangement of a dozen pink roses sitting on our table. OH MY GOD!!! I am obsessed with my ring and how personalized it is. Ryan even had the letters KM put into the setting, which will be my new initials :)
Ryan told me "everyone knows."
"What do you mean EVERYONE knows," I said.
Well, he had the ring designed over a month ago by Eddie Nasr, BEFORE we even tried rings on that one night, and wanted to wait to ask for my dad's permission before asking me. My dad had been in TX all summer visiting family, and arrived home about a week before the proposal. Ryan asked him last weekend when I ran to the grocery store, while they were hanging out with Brady at our house! He of course, said yes, and that he was overjoyed for us. Ry had also told my mom, sister, and a few girlfriends right when he got the ring, as well as his family. What good secret keepers!!! He left the ring at his mom's house and told me he visited it frequently. She also told me that she had nightmares about losing the ring, and would wake up out of a deep sleep to check her nightstand to see if it was still there!
We spent the rest of the night talking about being engaged, being SHOCKED eating amazing food (I had no appetite, even for a 25 week pregnant girl) and talking about wedding plans. Our server, Cole, was unbelievable and got some good shots of us...including the fake "re-proposal!" The night couldn't have been more perfect. I posted it on facebook after I called my parents, family, and close friends, and the response was OVERWHELMING. Lots of love.
I asked Ryan if he was nervous asking me, and he told me "No, I've never been more sure of anything in my life. Why would I be afraid?" We are beyond blessed to have found eachother and to have such amazing people in our life. I still can't believe that the love of my life has been IN my life for the last 13 years. The one who was the cute, tall, friendly boy in middle school who I occasionally danced with at Friday night dances...the one who was the football and basketball jock at Plymouth North who always said "hi" to me when we passed in the halls...the one who always made it a point to check in when we saw eachother at the Plymouth bars during college...the one who swept me off my feet with our amazing chemistry and conversation in the wee hours of the night after our 5 year highschool reunion...the one who told me he loved me within 3 weeks of dating...the one who treats my little boy as his own and is going to make the most AMAZING father to our Santa Baby...is going to be my HUSBAND!!! I am the LUCKIEST, and could never have imagined being so happy.
Planning on saying "I Do" in October 2012. Let the planning commence, and the fairytale begin...
